A total of 19 sorcery accusation-related violence (SARV) cases have appeared in court since January, with support from PNG Tribal Foundation. The organisation continues to assist victims who have lost hope in the justice system and in their lives.

A month-long court circuit in district and national courts across Jiwaka, Simbu, Eastern Highlands, and Morobe provinces saw many eyewitnesses and victims attend hearings due to the Foundation’s support. PNG Tribal Foundation provided logistics, accommodation, and food to ensure victims and witnesses were present in court.

The Foundation also assisted CID police in Lae with stationery for a SARV case now before the court. Additional support was given to CID officers in Kundiawa, Chuave, Minj, Banz, and Goroka, including fuel, airfare, hire cars, and stationery to help ensure the cases were properly documented and presented in court.

From January to April, the Foundation spent nearly K78,000 supporting these cases and conducting awareness activities in East Sepik Province.

PNG Tribal Foundation President GT Bustin said the organisation is currently managing 52 SARV and GBV cases and stressed that accountability and justice remain the only long-term solution.
