Chimbu SARV, GBV Cases Committed to National Court

A total of 22 sorcery and domestic violence cases in Chimbu Province have been committed to the National Court.

PNG Tribal Foundation recorded 14 Sorcery Accusation Related Violence (SARV) cases and eight Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases, which have successfully reached the National Court in Kundiawa.

Tribal Foundation President GT Bustin confirmed that 22 cases were from Simbu Province alone.

He thanked police officers, prosecutors, and others for working tirelessly to serve the victims of the SARV and GBV cases.

Mr Bustin said the foundation continued to support victims and eyewitnesses by covering costs for medical reports, post-mortems, and logistical needs, including bus fares and vehicle hire to transport victims and eyewitnesses to police stations and court hearings every week since cases were taken over in 2023.

“Support is also extended to police through funding for fuel, stationery, printing, and photocopying of court documents to ensure all necessary reports are prepared ahead of court proceedings,” he said.

Mr. Bustin said the foundation not only focused on community awareness and advocacy but also provided direct intervention to rescue victims and offered legal support, particularly where government services were inaccessible in remote areas.

He added that the progress marked a significant achievement for the organisation, demonstrating that the processes were starting to function effectively to deliver justice.

Tribal Foundation currently has 54 cases, with 630 victims or survivors, with 149 arrests, and 14 successful prosecutions.
