The United States Embassy in Paupa New Guinea, PNG University of Technology and PNG Tribal Foundation have entered into a partnership to build a memorial for pioneer aviator Amelia Earhart.

This July will mark the 85th anniversary of the disappearance of legendary pioneer aviator Amelia Earhart, who is the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, setting records for high and low altitude flying and disappeared over the Pacific Ocean, last seen by the public in Lae, Morobe Province on July 2, 1937.

Unitech through the memorandum of understanding signed in Lae will provide space, announce the concept, be part of the concept selection committee, the ground breaking, construct the memorial and open the Amelia Earhart Memorial.

PNG Tribal Foundation will solicit finding for this memorial and pay invoices whilst also being part of the concept selection committee.

The US Embassy in PNG will also be apart of the concept selection committee and also chair the Amelia Earhart Memorial PNG Fund, a fund that will be used to build the Amelia Earhart Memorial in Lae.
